The Bold Color Making Waves for 2027
I am currently overseas at MAISON&OBJET in Paris, and one color is already making a striking impression for 2027 — luminous blue.
This hue, often referred to as cobalt blue, is emerging as a key color story across the show. I have seen it appear in so many creative applications, from architectural shelving and backdrops to statement products and accessories, each use capturing cobalt’s ability to ground a space while bringing an undeniable energy to it.
Cobalt blue is not new, but its return feels refreshed and intentional. After several years of earthy neutrals and subdued palettes dominating interiors, this bold blue feels both anchoring and uplifting, offering a modern balance between calm and confidence.
One standout example I came across at the show was Stooly mobilier événementiel, a sustainable French brand creating beautiful stools made entirely of paper. Each Stooly includes a wool felt pad that serves as both a cushion and a tabletop surface, a thoughtful detail that combines functionality with an eco-conscious design ethos.
It is inspiring to see how sustainability and color innovation can exist so seamlessly together. This vivid blue, paired with tactile and natural materials, speaks to a broader shift in design — a renewed appreciation for contrast, craft, and creativity.
As I continue my travels through the Netherlands and Belgium this week, I will be exploring more emerging products and sustainability trends to share soon.
What are your thoughts on cobalt blue as a color that may shape the designs of the future?
