Spring 2025 High Point Market: 5 Key Trends That Caught My Eye
Another inspiring High Point Market has come and gone — and this spring, the showrooms were brimming with thoughtful design, evolving materiality, and a heightened sense of intention. As always, I was especially drawn to pieces that embraced sustainability, whether through craftsmanship, material sourcing, or design longevity. But beyond that, five key trends truly stood out to me this season: wood characteristics, versatile chairs, open bases, mixed substrates, and fresh color combinations.
Let’s dive into the details — and some of my favorite product moments that brought these trends to life.
Wood with Character and Curves
Wood is always foundational, but this season, it took on fresh personality. I saw a wide array of burl woods, bold grain patterns, and carved woods that mimicked textile textures. Rattan was another prominent feature, reinforcing the handmade and natural materials trend. What really stood out, though, were organic curves and soft silhouettes — a welcome move away from rigid edges.

One standout was the “Node Round Coffee Table” by Taracea. Not only does it showcase a stunning wood finish, but it also fits within another trend I loved: open bases. The sculptural base offers both storage and visual lightness, making it a beautiful and practical focal point.

Versatile, Statement-Making Chairs
Let’s talk about the chairs — because, wow. From bold profiles to unexpected materials, seating took center stage at Market this spring. I was particularly drawn to chairs with a contrast between front and back — think soft upholstered seats with exposed wood or leather backs. These two-tone designs invite you to view the piece from every angle.
MY PICK…
The “Olga Chair” by Four Corners Home is a perfect example. Its sculpted wooden back is a visual stunner, while the cozy textile seat invites you to sit and stay. These kinds of mixed-material chairs are functional, comfortable, and endlessly interesting.

Open Bases and Airy Structures
Furniture with open bases was more prevalent than ever this Market. These designs offer a lighter footprint, better flow of natural light, and opportunities for personalized styling. From media consoles to coffee tables and buffets, brands embraced this airier approach to storage and display.
MY PICK…
One highlight: the Lucas Buffet by Ro Sham Beaux. With natural finishes, sleek brass hardware, and an open lower section, it blends clean lines with curated utility. Yes, open shelves might require a little extra dusting — but the visual payoff is worth it!

Mixed Substrates (and Then Some)
Mixing materials isn’t new, but this season’s combinations felt bolder and more layered. I saw beyond the typical wood-metal or textile-leather pairings to pieces that incorporated three or more substrates. This not only adds depth and intrigue, but it reflects a consumer desire for one-of-a-kind pieces that stand the test of time.
MY PICK…
The “Charlotte” Bookcase by BONTEMPI is a striking example. With metal framing, glass shelving, and wood accents, it's both customizable and timeless. While resin isn’t the most eco-friendly material, when used well — and durably — it becomes a piece with legacy potential, contributing to a more circular design approach.

Fresh Color Combinations
Color at Market felt revitalized this spring. I noticed deep, earthy greens and rich jewel tones, often paired with warm neutrals like brown, camel, and sand (a notable shift away from cool grays). These palettes felt grounded yet vibrant, with lots of layered textures and organic patterns.
MY PICK…
One of my favorite showrooms this season was actually a flower shop! The Grassy Knoll, by High Point Designer John Paulin, featured deep green walls, beautifully embroidered textiles, and a thoughtful mix of lighting that gave each piece its own moment. These combinations create spaces that feel layered, intentional, and full of life.
