Design Discoveries at ICFF
Walking the halls of the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in NYC is always an inspirational journey! This year, the experience felt especially rich and expansive thanks to the captivating presence of Brazilian design.
As I explored each aisle of the Brazilian section, I was struck by the spectacular simplicity and refined craftsmanship on display. These designers are not only creating stunning pieces but doing so with a deep respect for materials, tradition, and sustainability. The result? Furniture that tells a story through both form and philosophy.
JADERALMEIDA: A Symphony of Thought and Form
A true standout at ICFF was JADERALMEIDA, a brand that seamlessly fuses thought and research, art and construction, passion and strategy. Their pieces offer unique sensory experiences; refined, elegant, and undeniably timeless. A pioneer in Brazil’s high-end furniture scene, JADERALMEIDA is celebrated for their dedication to quality and originality. I’m thrilled to share that they’ll be opening their first NYC store by the end of 2025!
Voler: Technology Meets Tradition
Another favorite from Brazil, Voler, impressed me with their ability to balance technological innovation with traditional, manual techniques. Their design philosophy centers on well-being and visual comfort, qualities that are evident in every piece. The craftsmanship was elevated, yet grounded in human touch, offering a beautiful reminder of how advanced design can still feel intimate.
MASSAME Studio: Artistry Rooted in Heritage
Last but certainly not least, MASSAME Studio offered a soulful approach to design. This sustainable design studio is committed to preserving the rich heritage of artisan communities in Brazil. Each piece is handmade, with deep roots in cultural storytelling, historical relevance, and artistic expression. MASSAME’s work is a testament to how design can preserve memory and foster meaningful connection.
A U.S. Highlight: Justin Bailey’s Polyp Lighting
Outside of Brazil, one U.S.-based designer also deserves a special mention: Justin Bailey Design from Bloomington, Indiana. His Polyp Lighting Collection is playful, organic, and completely captivating. The Polyp Lamp merges fluid form and digital fabrication to create lighting that glows with personality and innovation. It was one of the most exciting lighting pieces I’ve seen this year!
