Exploring Design Trends and Tabletop Wonders in 2024

As the new year unfolds, I find myself embracing the idea that sometimes it takes something larger than oneself to gain a fresh perspective on life. In the spirit of self-awareness, I've made a conscious effort to step away from the routine and appreciate the beauty that surrounds me.

Traveling during the recent holiday season to visit family and friends provided the perfect opportunity to reflect on life and, from a design standpoint, marvel at the breathtaking landscapes that adorn our country. From the jagged Sawtooth range in Idaho to the paradise-like views from the Getty Center in Los Angeles, the colors, textures, and dimensions of our diverse landscape have left me truly inspired.

“Modern Legacy” in Dinnerware and Tabletop

Immersing myself in the vibrant streets of Los Angeles and exploring stores that have been a source of inspiration over the past 15 years has been nothing short of stimulating. Gjusta, a Venice bakery/deli/restaurant, stands out with its hip store, Gjusta Goods, where cooking, gathering, and living find a perfect blend. The vintage dinnerware collections at Gjusta Goods caught my eye, featuring various patterns on exquisite serving pieces, platters, and plates. The green scroll/leaf border pattern with metallic detailing became a favorite, and the eclectic mix of floral patterns in various color stories added a unique touch. Gjusta's apartment, available for short and long-term stays, showcases the ever-changing opportunities to create a home with on-trend, aspirational, and hip products.

Tabletop Trends

The world of tabletop design is experiencing a renaissance, with textured borders, imperfect scalloped edging, and a palette of earthen tones and pastel colors taking center stage. During my journey, I found myself drawn to tonal color stories in chocolate brown, rust, and cream, complemented by rich and textural wood accents. A particularly noteworthy discovery was a napkin with a "self napkin ring" made from coordinating elastic fabric, a clever and stylish touch. The enduring charm of high-edge borders on dinnerware continues, evoking a handmade vibe, and the allure of imperfect scalloped edge dinner plates adds a touch of sensuality to the dining experience. Blue textured accents remain en vogue, ensuring each dinnerware set is unique and contemporary.

Pattern Play Continues

In the realm of tabletop design, checks, plaids, and stripes persist as key players, injecting a sense of fun and modernity into tablescapes. Oversized mugs and imperfect patterns with a checkered past create an atmosphere of rustic charm, while textured glazes elevate the color palette, resulting in one-of-a-kind vibes for each dining set.

As I embark on this new year with a fresh perspective gained through travel and exploration, the fusion of "Modern Legacy" in dinnerware and evolving tabletop trends serves as a testament to the dynamic and ever-changing world of design. From vintage inspirations to contemporary patterns, the journey through design trends leaves me excited for the aesthetic possibilities that lie ahead, promising a year filled with on-trend, aspirational, and hip choices in the realm of home decor and dining.
